“Axel, wait up. You’re heading to the ravens’ compound to pick Julian up?” Mayhem asked.

“Yeah, do you need me to pass a message to Zack?” Axel asked.

“Tell Zack that Venom and I agreed to let more ravens come here, and that I’ve emailed him the information regarding the two businesses we plan to open in town,” Mayhem said.

“I’ll relay the message,” Axel replied, getting on his bike.

Taking his Harley would be faster. A quiet walk in the woods with just Julian and him might be tempting but they were on a schedule.

Jason would arrive in an hour but if they were late, the mage wouldn’t wait long. He had other duties to attend.

Axel took the dirt trail that led inside the forest. Fifteen minutes later, he arrived at the ravens’ compound. Axel dismounted, took off his helmet, then ran a hand through his hair.

He wanted to look decent for Julian. Axel passed by a couple of raven shifters working the field as he entered.

One of them, he noticed, happened to be Zack. Zack raised a hand towards him in greeting, then joined him. Axel relayed Mayhem’s message.

“That’s great news. There’s a pair of brothers, looking for a new home. They’re second-cousins whose flock had disbanded a year ago,” Zack said. “And I’ll take a look at the email Mayhem sent.”

“Axel, you’re here,” Julian exclaimed.

Since he’d been talking to Zack, he didn’t notice Julian emerge from his cabin. Julian ran towards him.

His raven wore a pressed button-down white shirt, black jeans and his favourite dirty white sneakers. Julian also smelled wonderful, as if he used cologne.

Wait. Did Julian dress up, because Axel mentioned they were going out after seeing Jason?

Julian would’ve collided against him, if Axel didn’t wrap his arms around him. His omega happily buried his head against his chest.

Julian started scenting him. Axel chuckled, running his fingers through Julian’s neatly gelled and combed hair.

“Hey,” Julian said in a muffled voice, finally raising his head to look up at him.

“Hey back. You look great,” Axel said.

“Young love,” Zack said, sounding wistful.

“Don’t talk like you’re a grandpa,” Axel said. He looked into Julian’s eyes. “You ready?”

“Uh-huh. See you later, Zack,” Julian said with a wave.

Axel grabbed his hand and led Julian to his bike. Axel noticed the two female raven shifters talking in one corner. Gina and Paige, Axel remembered their names, as well as the two raven alpha males who wanted to kick Julian out.

Axel gave them a look. Gina and Paige avoided his gaze and hurried away.

“Was scaring them off necessary?” Julian asked.

“No, but it’s fun,” Axel said. They got on his bike. “Hold on tight.”

“I remember,” Julian said.

Soon enough, Axel was back at the MC compound. Julian dismounted and handed Axel his helmet, then quietly said, “Zack lost his omega mate Ben last winter.”

Axel didn’t know what to do with that revelation. He’d be devastated if he ever lost Julian. Did Venom and Axel know about Zack losing his mate?

It took courage and willpower to continue living when a shifter was parted from his mate.
